I will come to that later, but first let's discuss "Republic"
What is Republic?
- A republic is a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter", not the private concern or property of the rulers, and where offices of state are subsequently directly or indirectly elected or appointed rather than "inherited". In modern times, a common simplified definition of a republic is a government where the head of state is not a "Monarch"(Reference Wikipedia).
Now are we republic?
- No, I don't think so. With a family or rather I say a monarchy(The Gandhi's) ruling the country directly or indirectly for almost 64 years, we are not really republic.
Now the question is what is the issue even if a family is ruling for that long. The issue here is that this family is not doing anything but playing with the sentiments of public.
So in my opinion we are still not republic. And below are the reasons why I think so because, Even after 64 years;
- 50% of population is still struggling for basic infrastructure and dealing with inflation, corruption, crime and dirty politics.
- Basic agenda of parties is not development but rather they are still counting on Caste-ism, regional politics and luring minority.
- The level of politics has gone to the cheapest level possible and now parties are going to any level for maligning each others image.
- Public is feeling helpless and have lost all their hopes that India will ever be able to compete with rest of the world.
- We still are way behind any developing or developed country and if we are going like this then its not far that we will fell apart.
This is the reason I am not "Happy" this republic day and for me it is just another day...

I agree with you but I would still wish you a Happy Republic day! In my opinion, even if this came across as a rant on all things wrong with the 'Republic' today, that's not all it was. I guess somewhere, sometime, you along with so many Indians out there, including me, want this to be a true Republic. And as it's said, the first step in solving a problem is realising there is one. India today is NOT a true Republic. But it can be one. And you and I and everyone else out there can get together to make it one. So, I'd like to wish you a (albeit belated) Happy Republic Day!
